“Be Still”
A realistic still life journey showcased by strong light and shadows. I hope my exhibit feels like the perfect time to reflect on the quiet power of still life painting. I’ve shared glimpses of how these works slow time, honor the ordinary, and  create a space for stillness and reflection. Each work holds the promise of discovery - a moment of pause to see the world anew. Still life is not just about objects; it’s about finding meaning in the overlooked and sharing that meaning with others. It’s about seeing beauty in the smallest things - a weathered book, ripe fruit, the gentle glow of light on old wood. In some ways, it invites us to pause, to reflect, and to reconnect with what matters most.
This show is an invitation to linger in those quiet moments, to let the stories told by light and texture speak. Behind each painting is a deeper process - a journey that starts in the studio and unfolds on the canvas. I invite you to join me on this journey.
You can use the links below to directly connect with me and be able to follow my thought process and the quiet conversations that guide my work.

Denice Peters is a nationally recognized pastel artist known for her luminous still life paintings and distinctive style, Blended Reality. A native of LeMars, Iowa, she brings Midwest values and a deep connection to nature into her work. Self-taught and passionate, Denice has painted with pastels for over 30 years, developing a unique technique using only her fingers and soft pastels, creating stunning realism with emotional depth. In 2010, following personal loss and life changes, she committed fully to her art. Today, Denice teaches workshops, exhibits across the U.S., and has collectors in the U.S., England, and Mexico. Her work focuses on dramatic light, mood, and nostalgia, earning her numerous awards, national and international recognition, and publication features. She is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, MidAmerica Pastel Society, Iowa Pastel Society (where she also served as
President), and a juried member of the International Guild of Realism. Her goal is to create work that brings beauty, peace, and connection to others. “Life is too short to do otherwise.”
